High School Choral Music Enhancement Program
Initiated and developed by music director and conductor, Dr. Maxine M. Asselin, and as part of Jubilate Chorale's core values, this program is offered to high school juniors an seniors with demonstrated vocal talent. Referral by a public or private school music teacher is required.
Qualified students participate in a 26-week after school/evening program, which runs from September through the following May, following the Jubilate Chorale rehearsal schedule.
The program offers the following:
• Individual vocal coaching with
Dr. Maxine M. Asselin
• Rehearsals and performances with Jubilate Chorale for their two major seasonal concerts
• Jubilate Chorale member assigned
to mentor each student
• No cost to the student - all music and concert performance attire is underwritten by Jubilate Chorale
Mary H. Wilcox Stipend Competition
Each year, as funding allows, Jubilate Chorale sponsors a vocal stipend competition for undergraduate music students. The winner receives a monetary stipend to help fund their studies and also appears as a guest soloist at one of Jubilate Chorale's major seasonal concerts.
Vocal teachers and coaches in both the college and private sector are notified when the competition will be held. Interested vocal students apply and are assigned an audition time slot. Three vocal judges listen to the singers perform and discuss career plans with each one. At the conclusion of the competition, the judges choose the most promising vocalist and announce the winner.
Named in honor of a beloved Jubilate Chorale member who was also a high school music teacher and lead singer in a band, Mary was dedicated to the development of vocal talent in young people. Taken from us in an untimely manner at the prime of her life, Mary's legacy endures through this program.
