Jubilate Chorale Jubilate Chorale has developed two important programs consistent with its mission to encourage youthful choristers to continue the development of musical skills throughout their adult lives.

Mary H. Wilcox Stipend Competition

The opportunity for an undergraduate college student to earn this monetary award is offered annually through a vocal competition.

Vocal teachers and coaches in both the college and private sector are notified annually of this competition. Interested vocal students apply and are assigned a time to compete on a pre-determined date. Three vocal judges listen to the singers perform and discuss their career plans with them. At the conclusion of the competition, the judges choose the most promising vocalist and announce the winner.

The winning vocalist performs at least two solos at one of Jubilate Chorale’s two major seasonal concerts.

The Mary H. Wilcox Stipend Award is named in memory of this former music teacher who was a singer and officer of Jubilate Chorale. She had a positive and significant impact on music students in Southeastern Massachusetts, many of whom went on to pursue careers in music.

Choral Music Enhancement Program

Jubilate Chorale believes that it is important for high school juniors and seniors to supplement their educational experience beyond the school day and use this to enhance their success in the college application process.

Some elements of this program include:
   • High school juniors and seniors with demonstrated vocal talent are referred by their public or
     private school music teachers.
   • Ten (10) students are accepted per semester for a total of 20 per year.
   • Each student becomes a singing member of Jubilate Chorale, participating in weekly 2-1/2 hour
rehearsals culminating with a performance at the end of each session.
   • A 26-week after school/evening program runs over two seasons, including special sessions with
Jubilate Chorale conductor, Dr. Maxine Asselin, focusing on all aspects of vocal performance
related to choral singing or other music subjects which the student desired and requests.
   • There is no cost to the student:
      -  Music and appropriate concert attire are provided.
      -  No dues or fees for music are required.
   • Each student is assigned a mentor from the ensemble for the duration of the program to
     provide feedback and guidance.

There are many high school choral opportunities for students in area schools, However, for the high school student deciding to pursue a career in vocal or choral music, there are few after-school programs available. The student may pursue private vocal lessons, but the added expense sometimes limits those who can afford these services. With less experience than their more advantaged peers, some students may be less competitively positioned for scholarships and college admissions.
